KUCHING: The Malaysian Malay Contractors’ Association (PKMM) is pleased with the outcome of its recent meeting with the Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan in the latter’s office in Putra Jaya.

Its vice-president Abang Nasser Abang Hadari said PKMM was satisfied with the assurance given by Sidek that the government would act on complaints made by its members.

“PKMM has presented all its members’ outstanding cases during the meeting, which was also attended by chief secretaries of the relevant ministries.

“The grievances of the contractors have caught the attention of the Chief Secretary to the government. At the conclusion of the meeting, he issued directives to all the chief secretaries to give priority attention to solve all outstanding cases,” he said yesterday when thesundaypost queried about the latest status involving Kejuteraaan Rasshin Sdn Bhd.

Abang Nasser, who is also the association’s state chairman, disclosed that Sidek had told the relevant ministries’ chief of secretaries that all projects which had disputes with the project management consultants (PMCs) should be resolved by the end of the year.

Instructions were also issued that outstanding payment for completed jobs must be paid by the relevant ministries by the end of the month.

“On behalf of PKMM Sarawak, I wish to extend our appreciation to PKMM national management committee headed by president Datuk Mokhtar Samad who initiated the meeting.

“And on behalf of the contractors, I would also like to extend our gratitude to the Chief Secretary to the government Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan for his prompt attention.

“Hopefully, the chief secretaries of the respective ministries could expedite their actions to resolve the matters.”
In June this year, the state chairman admitted that the delay in closing of final accounts experienced by Kejuruteraan Rasshin Sdn Bhd was not an isolated case.

He disclosed that a handful of the PKMM members also suffered similar predicament when they were dealing with projects under the Ministry of Education (MoE).
