KOTA KINABALU: Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Masidi Manjun said, numbers are not important compared to the State’s achievements for the past 48 years of independence.

He said, the current and future generations should evaluate what has been done right and what needed to be done to achieve more.

He said, while the correct number of years of independence is important, the people should not lose sight of the new issue, which is, what have we done that is right.

“Malaysia is 48 years old, Merdeka is 48/54 years. 48 years for Sabah and Sarawak and 54 years for Peninsula Malaysia,”

Masidi stressed when asked by the media after officiating the opening of a restaurant here yesterday.

Masidi believed that there was a need to correct the history textbooks accordingly.

“A fact is a fact, we do not hide it. We can’t force people to accept 54 years when it’s only 48 years.

“To me the best way to sort out the whole thing is to be honest with it.”
