CAUGHT ON CAMERA: The recording shows the bald-headed thief carting away a cardboard box, its contents spilling on the road.

KUCHING: A footwear shop proprietress lodged a police report yesterday over the brazen theft of shoes from her Kota Sentosa premises.

The 38-year-old owner said the latest incident which happened at 7.30pm on Monday was captured on her shop’s closed-circuit television camera (CCTV).

Footage from the CCTV showed a gold-coloured Atos car driven by a woman stopping next to the premises, and two male accomplices exiting and loitering along the five-foot-way of the shop for several seconds.

One of the men, with a shaven head, walks to a pile of boxes containing school shoes which had been stacked on the five-foot-way, and grabs one of them before running back to the waiting car.

The cardboard box rips open and spills its contents on the road, so the thief flees to his car empty-handed as shop workers come rushing out.

According to the proprietress, her workers managed to punch the bald man once and kick the car before it sped away.

The second male accomplice, who had been keeping guard, ran to the main road where he was picked up by the Atos.

The owner disclosed this was the second time the same group had struck, the first incident being on Aug 28 when they stole a similar box of children’s footwear.

She said there had been several previous incidents.

In the latest incident, her workers recorded the licence plate number of the Atos before it sped away.

The proprietress forwarded the information to the police along with the CCTV recording.
