STAR ATTRACTION: Peter with Amber Chia.

KOTA KINABALU:  I regretted until today for not having ever said ‘I love you’ to my late mother who had toiled and sweated to bring up all nine of us brothers and sisters by selling ‘Sireh’, sigup (tobacco leaves), pinang (beetle nuts) and other native products in the old Tuaran market stalls. With the meagre income she earned she managed to put us through schools and colleges and that was no mean feat. She was an amazing woman. This song is specially for her. — Peter Dicky Lee, Sabah singing legend

Sabah singing legend Peter Dicky Lee has been invited to perform his trademark song, the mega hit ‘Iziau Iziau Iziau’, in Amber Chia’s latest movie “ Tears of a Mother” to be shot in Tawau and Pulau Mataking off Semporna early next month.

The movie will also feature Sabah Supermodel Tawau level winner Yvonne Lai and Jeannie Lee.

Well-known composer and singer Ivan Teh, also known as Xiao Hei, will also be featured in a minor role.

The film, a joint production of Shinning Star and JSBC, a China-based TV station, will be released internationally, particularly in the Asian region and Chinese speaking markets.

In a press statement yesterday, Peter also disclosed that his first ever singles in the Mandarin language will be released late next month, entitled “Mother, You are my hero” This song is dedicated to all mothers who have sacrificed and dedicated their lives in raising their families.

Peter said: “I regretted until today for not having ever said ‘I love you’ to my late mother who had toiled and sweated to bring up all nine of us brothers and sisters by selling ‘Sireh’, sigup (tobacco leaves), pinang (beetle nuts) and other native products in the old Tuaran market stalls.

“With the meagre income she earned she managed to put us through schools and colleges and that was no mean feat. She was an amazing woman. This song is specially for her.”

The single which is composed by well-known Tawau singer Xiao Hei, will feature Zachary (Peter’s son) portraying Peter in his younger days. Shooting will take place in Tuaran, Tawau and around Kota Kinabalu next month.

When asked who will portray the mother, Peter grinned and said “That’s a secret for now. You will find out soon”

After releasing four successful albums, all in the Malay and Kadazandusun languages, Peter’s first foray in the Chinese market will be eagerly anticipated and tested by his fans and critics alike.

Peter described his singing in the Mandarin language “the toughest challenge in my career”.

After Shanghai (where he performed at the Shanghai World Expo 2010), Peter who is non-Chinese educated, decided to go Mandarin.

“If I can survive Shanghai with my Pidgin Mandarin, I believe this single will become another megahit – hopefully breaking into the international Chinese market,” he said.
