KOTA KINABALU: United Pasokmomogun KadazanDusun Murut Organization (UPKO) deputy president Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred M. Bumburing has refuted Sabahkini’s report that he will not be defending his posts in the party.

Bumburing, in a statement yesterday, clarified that what he said was taken out of context by the reporter of Sabahkini.

“I was just about to head home from Tawau today when I was informed of the report,” he said.

The Sabahkini report alleged that Bumburing, who announced his decision not to defend his post in the party’s election, was not only because he wanted to give the younger leaders an opportunity, it was also because he was disappointed with the Malaysian government for not being honest to Sabahans.

According to the report, Bumburing was alleged to have said that he saw no point to remain in the party as the voices of Sabahans are not heard.

“It is better for me to spend time with my family, especially my mother,” he said in the report.

Bumburing who is also Tuaran member of parliament, had in fact declined nomination as the Tuaran Upko divisional chief during its triennial general meeting recently.

He, however, stressed in his speech and also when asked by reporters later that he is still Upko deputy president and his loyalty remains with the party.
