KOTA MARUDU: A 45-year-old farmer was arrested by the police for allegedly attacking and causing hurt to his wife and son with a dangerous weapon.

District police chief DSP Mohd Isa Yusof said the incident happened due to a misunderstanding between the suspect and his 17-year-old son, which led the suspect to attack his son and his 45-year-old wife with a parang at an unnumbered house in Kampung Mangin here on Tuesday.

“Initial police investigation showed that a misunderstanding happened between the father and the son which led to the father to attack his son with a parang.

“The mother tried to stop the suspect but was attacked by the latter with the same weapon.

“Due to the attack, the son suffered head injury while the mother received five stitches on her left ear,” he said when contacted yesterday.

Acting on a police report lodged by the woman, the suspect was arrested the same day around 6.30pm.

Police also confiscated a weapon, believed used in the attack, and the suspect has been remanded for seven days to facilitate investigation under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing hurt with a dangerous weapon, said Isa.

Under the provision, it carries a jail term of three years or fine or whipping, or with any two on conviction.
