Veterans commend Najib for courage in abolishing the ISA

KUCHING: Many have described the abolishment of the Internal Security Act (ISA) as the perfect Malaysia Day gift for all Malaysians.

According to former senior Police Field Force (PFF) officer DCP (Rtd) Datuk Aba Huk, the abolishment of the Internal Security Act (ISA) was long overdue.

“It should have been abolished a long time ago, not only now after so many people have made much noise about it.

“Anyway, it is always better to be late than never,” he said, adding that all Malaysians should be grateful to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

Another veteran ex-serviceman, Capt (Rtd) Mohd Johari Ibrahim said that it was the right time to abolish that particular law since physical threat from the communists was very much less now.

“After all, new laws will be introduced to handle any future threats to the security and sovereignty of the country.

“I congratulate our prime minister and the government for the political courage to have done so,” said Mohd Johari.

Aba and Mohd Johari were among the many Malaysians who commended Najib for the abolishment of the 1960 Act.

Najib had made the announcement when delivering his special Malaysia Day message in front of 800 people at Angkasapuri, which was aired, live over several TV channels on Thursday night.
