KUALA LUMPUR: Public Bank Bhd (Public Bank) has won the ‘Best Bank’ and ‘Best SME’ awards at the 5th Annual Best Financial Institutions Awards 2011 by Hong Kong-based Alpha Southeast Asia magazine for actively promoting loan products for small-and-medium (SME) enterprises.

Public Bank, among the top banks in the country, won the award for promoting credit facilities for the SME segment secured under the Credit Guarantee Corporation (CGC) scheme.

The awards were based on the bank’s 2010 performance, award pitches as well as peer and customer surveys, the institutional investment magazine focused on Southeast Asia said in a statement yesterday.

CIMB Group Holdings Bhd dominated the awards, scooping up accolades for ‘Best Investment Bank’, ‘Best Bond House’, ‘Best Equity House’, ‘Best Institutional Broker’, ‘Best Cash Management’, ‘Best Foreign Exchange for Corporates and Financial Institutions’, ‘Best Private Wealth Management’, ‘Best Islamic Finance Bank’ as well as the special marquee award for Southeast Asia.

The statement also said HSBC proved worthy of the ‘Best Foreign Bank’ award for Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam for ranking number one in profits before tax and total assets. — Bernama
