ALOR SETAR: Seventy-one students of a technic school here went down with food poisoning after a dinner at the school’s hostel dining hall last Friday.

The students, who were residents at the school hostel and comprised 40  male and  31 female aged between 15 and 17 years, were rushed to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) Saturday night.

HSB Emergency Department head, Dr Fatahul Laham Mohamed, said the hospital was informed about the suspected food poisoning at 8.30pm and the students were brought to the hospital in two buses which arrived about 9.15pm.

“On arrival at the hospital, the students were weak as they were vomiting and having diarrhoea, but their condition was stable.

Dr Fatahul Laham said none of the students admitted to the ward and they were allowed to return to their school hostel about 11.30pm yesterday.

Meanwhile, state Health deputy director, Dr Hayati Mohd Radzi, said the department had taken samples of the food which was served to the students for analysis and also ordered the dining hall to be closed temporarily. — Bernama
