MARUDI: Owners of NCR lands along the Marudi-Sg Arang Road near here lodged a report at the Marudi police station on Saturday alleging that a private firm had encroached into their property.

Zainal Wasli, 50, who claimed that he was a representative of the Malay NCR Action Committee,  and several affected individuals stated in their police report that the company in question had damaged their crops, fruit trees and rubber trees due to the deployment of bulldozers.

They further claimed that their property near Loagan Unga (Unga Lake) had seen the sprouting of a drainage system purportedly developed by the company to facilitate the planting of oil palm.

The drainage system had damaged the lake which, they claimed, was one their “rice bowl”. Zainal said that on Sept 11, the committee had met a representative of the company, known only to them as “Mr Julin”, and arrangements were met for a discussion to be held at the Balai Raya Kampung Narum on Sept 17.

But, he lamented, neither “Mr Jilin” nor anyone from the company, showed up.
