KAPIT: Kapit MP Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi on Saturday remarked that the annual Baleh-Kapit Raft Safari had achieved its objective.

“This rafting event since it was introduced sixteen years ago has achieved its objective of spurring government departments and the rural longhouses to work together to promote tourism.

“Now, tourists don’t only come to participate in the safari but they also come throughout the year. This has spurred eco-tourism and the pople benefit from its economic spin-off,” he said when officiating at the closing ceremony at Town Square.

He observed that apart from the main rafting event, many interesting side activities such as rafting pageant, children karaoke contest, handicraft exhibition and weaving demonstration were also held to provide a festive atmosphere to the carnival.

Earlier, he gave away prizes to winners of the raft safari.

Present were Kapit Resident and organising chairman Dahim Nadot, deputy Resident Mohd Ikhmal Abdullah, district officer Simon Japut Tiok, walikota Philimon Nuing and Information Department officer Koh Kumbong.
