SIBU: Sarawak BN’s new media unit or ‘Unit Media Baru’ (UMB) has been described as the much-needed ‘punch’ to hammer the opposition for incessantly hurling baseless allegations.

Jemoreng assemblyman Abu Seman Jahwie said online technology had a monstrous arm span and could be used easily to keep people posted on the latest happenings and to right all wrongs painted by the opposition.
In addition to that, blogosphere had a huge following, especially among the younger generation.

“By that I mean people will get a more accurate picture of government’s policies and development. The government is always sensitive to the welfare of the people and doing its level best to bring betterment to them,” he told journalists at a Hari Raya gathering at Surau Darul Jannah here yesterday.

UMB Sarawak, which is headed by PBB Youth information chief Abdul Aziz Tan Sri Adenan, is primary meant to counter the opposition’s onslaught against BN leaders and policies.

Aziz was quoted recently as saying that the whole idea was to ensure that the BN would retain all the current seats held by the four state BN component parties in the next general election.

He was also reported to have said that UMB would use all available cyber tools such as the blogs, Facebook, and Twitter to wrong step the opposition. Even SMS would be deployed whenever deemed appropriate.

Abu Seman described the formation of UMB as a “positive development” and that he was all for it.

“This will help clear
the air and protect people, especially rural folk, from being swayed by the opposition’s ill-intended gyrations.”

Earlier in his speech, Abu Seman said the festive celebration not only help cement bonds but also foster closer rapport among the people.

He reminded those present of the importance of preserving racial harmony and unity, and to never take things for granted.

Abu Seman also advised the management of Surau Darul Jannah to roll out more activities regularly.
