Hudud: Ngieng tells DAP to show it disapproves of PAS’ stance

SIBU: SUPP publicity secretary Daniel Ngieng yesterday said any move to create an Islamic state must be stopped to safeguard the country’s parliamentary democracy.

In this connection, he told DAP to seriously oppose PAS’ intention to implement hudud law.

“We feel that DAP Sarawak should seriously look at this issue and have the political stance to say no to PAS to the extent of quitting Pakatan Rakyat (PR),” Ngieng told a press conference, adding that PAS had in 1999 propagated the formation of an Islamic state for Malaysia.

DAP Sarawak, he recalled, opted to disassociate itself from PR then.

During the Sibu by-election last year, SUPP had cautioned DAP about the Islamic state issue, Ngieng said, adding that DAP took the advice as SUPP’s scare tactic.

“DAP had publicly claimed that PAS would not insist on implementing hudud, but now PAS’ senior leaders say otherwise,” he said.
