Spat over hudud can cost PR dearly — Minos

KUCHING: The squabble between DAP and PAS over the implementation of hudud law would be a big turn-off for Pakatan Rakyat in the coming general election, said political analyst Datuk Peter Minos.

With PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim declaring his support for hudud law to be implemented, Minos said this was a classic case of a political party willing to ignore friends and partners even to the extent of imperiling its own political fortunes.

“Sarawakians should by now know the true colours of Pakatan which is always trying to push Malaysians to go for things extreme. If a political group is guided by any ideology that has a tendency for extremism, this is very bad for multi-racial Malaysia,” he said.

DAP and PKR leaders had been squabbling over the latter’s plan to implement hudud, and the row was heightened after Anwar supported it.

Minos, who is also PBB deputy information chief, said voters should stick with BN which is moderate and reasonable.

“Not going for hudud shows Umno is sensitive to the religious feelings of its friends in BN. This is the beauty of BN – always guided by fair and wise principle of appreciating the sentiments and feelings of all Malaysians,” he said.

He added that whatever weaknesses BN had, voters should stick to it.

“Our lives are better handled by BN, and not by Pakatan which to me is a bit on the fringe and a little bonkers at times,” he said.
