KUCHING: People’s Progressive Party (PPP) said it would assist a man whose application to replace his broken MyKad had been rejected by the National Registration Department (NRD).

Its state chief John Lau said the party viewed this matter seriously as identity card is a very important document.

“We will try to get the NRD’s side of the story first and after that we hope we can get them to help the young man,” he said when met yesterday.

On another matter, Lau disclosed that PPP conducted a new-voter registration exercise at Kampung Tematu in Jalan Batu Kitang recently.

“The response was very encouraging with many of them aged 21 to 32 year old,” he said.

Lau added that the party also took advantage of the exercise to listen to problems faced by the rakyat.

“We are not only keen to register new voters but want to listen firsthand
problems faced by the rakyat.

“We hope we can help them address these problems.”
