KOTA KINABALU: Typhoon Nesat’s strong tail wind swished on Sabah’s west coast wreaking havoc, knocking down power and telecommunication lines, uprooted trees and blown off rooftops.
No one was injured but some 15,000 people were affected when electricity and telephone lines were cut off by fallen trees and billboards.
Residents in the coastal villages of Tanjung Aru, Putatan and Petagas were also rudely awakened early Tuesday when strong winds ripped off their homes zinc roofs.
The typhoon was located approximately 1,153km north-northeast Kudat and 1,215km north-northeast of Sabah’s east coast district of Sandakan at 11am Tuesday.
Windy conditions are expected until Oct 1.
The Sabah meteorological department had issued a second category warning on the storm. The warning indicates it is dangerous to all shipping activities, including fishing and ferry services. Sabah’s west coast, interior, Kudat district and Labuan would continue to be affected by the typhoon tail wind in the next few days.
