KUCHING: The industrial town of Kulim in the northern state of Kedah, famed for its Kulim Hi-Tech Park, yesterday celebrated the opening of the 10th and latest Tune Hotel in Malaysia. Tune Hotel Kulim is the first branded hotel chain for Kedah’s third largest town.

According to a press statement, the opening of Tune Hotel Kulim brought its worldwide network to 13 hotels including two in Bali, Indonesia and one in London, England. The new Tune Hotel presented an additional 50 rooms comprising 32 doubles, 17 twins and a wheelchair-friendly room to the network.

Tune Hotel Kulim was officially opened by the Head of Kulim Municipal Council, Mohd Zohdi Saad. Also present was Tune Hotels Group CEO Mark Lankester.

Mohd Zohdi said, “Kulim is very delighted to welcome Tune Hotels. The opening of Tune Hotel Kulim is very much anticipated and we hope it will help us to further develop the travel and tourism sector not only in Kulim but in Kedah and the northern region in general.”

Tune Hotel Kulim is located right next to Kulim’s premier shopping complex, the Landmark Central, providing guests easy access to shopping, dining and entertainment. It is midway between Kulim old town and its new town centre, and a short drive from the renowned Kulim Hi-Tech Park that houses some of the biggest international manufacturing and R&D facilities.

Tune Hotels Group CEO Mark Lankester added, “This is our second hotel in the northern region after Downtown Penang, and our very first in the state of Kedah. We are very proud to be here and we look forward to actively participating in the local travel and tourism scene.”

Tune Hotels successfully pioneered a branded value hotel brand with the concept of pay-as-you-use that has become hugely popular amongst travellers from across the world. Under the concept, guests only pay for room rates with the option of adding on other amenities like towels and toiletries, air-conditioning, in-room wifi and satellite tv service at selected hotels.

Lankester also noted that about 30 new Tune Hotels will be opening in the next 15 months. “I would like to encourage guests to stay connected with Tune Hotels via our Facebook page to keep tab of the latest openings and promotions. More Tune Hotels are scheduled for opening in the UK, the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, India and Australia, that will give our guests even more options for travel destinations and it’s going to be really exciting.”
