KOTA KINABALU: About 63 percent of 896 Indonesian respondents who participated in a study conducted in Tawau last year revealed that they wanted to continue living in Malaysia.
And 60 percent of total wanted to apply for Malaysian citizenship.
The study focusing on Indonesian migrant workers in Tawau was carried out between November and December last year, said Datin Danna Ontol, who represented Sabah Economic Planning Unit director Datuk Ismail Abdullah at the seminar unveiling the finding of the study at a hotel near here yesterday.
The Indonesian respondents in the study gave the following reasons for
wanting to stay on in Malaysia: ease in gaining employment in the country, lucrative salary offered and political stability.
The respondents are working at various sectors in Tawau, including plantation, manufacturing, service and construction.
