PAS congress to focus on next general election preparations

KUALA LUMPUR: PAS’ 60th anniversary celebrations start tomorrow with a two-day congress which will focus on the party’s preparation for the next general election.

The congress, held in Kepala Batas, Penang, will also include discussions on several matters related to syariah law, said its vice-president Salahuddin Ayub when contacted by Bernama here, yesterday.

It is scheduled to be opened by party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and closed by its spiritual adviser Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat.

Meanwhile, PAS secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali said the celebration was to commemorate the party’s 60-year struggle in the nation’s political arena.

The celebration is expected to start off with a carnival and exhibition on the party’s history.

It will be followed by a forum at night with deputy president Mohamad Sabu, Salahuddin, information chief Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man and former Perlis Mufti Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin as panel members.

On Saturday, there will be speeches by DAP chairman Karpal Singh and Parti Keadilan Rakyat adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim along with Abdul Hadi and Nik Abdul Aziz. — Bernama
