KAPIT: Kapit MP Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi said that various activities organised by the government throughout the years has kept locals abreast of current developments including the transfer of skill and technology designed to enhance their quality of life.
“The government has never neglected the rural folk. Activities such as courses, seminars, motivation talks and workshops include the hands on training to transfer technology to enhance the quality of life.
“Agencies like Malaysian Agriculture Research Development Institute (Mardi) and Ministry of Industrial Development (MID) have through various activities encouraged entrepreneurs and potential entrepreneurs to venture into business. To be successful in business, it is important you’re able to take into consideration cost and profit in view of making a profit,” he said.
Nanta said this when lauding Mardi/MID’s combined effort in organising the course ‘Technology Processing of Cordial Drink and Chili Sauce’ at the civic centre here on Wednesday and Thursday.
The course provided hands on training in the processing of chili sauce, tomato sauce, sarsi and rose cordial.
He was confident that through such a course, folk in the rural areas would be aware of the modern technology available for food and cordial drink preparation.
The objectives of the course include the transfer of technology on food processing and cordial drink making, proper packaging and how to enhance a working relation between potential entrepreneurs and Mardi and MID.
“Food industry is very important. Hands on training are an important aspect on food processing and cordial drink making. Both chili sauce and cordial drinks are important items on our menu so the market is huge.
“The end of the course is the beginning of trying out the skill and knowledge acquired in food processing and cordial drink making. I hope all the participants will venture into this business to tap this opportunity to generate income,” he said.
Nanta was officiating at the course closing ceremony on Thursday and was accompanied by his wife, Datin Angelina Celestine Ujang, Kapit Resident Dahim Nadot, District Officer Simon Japut Tiok, administrative officer Badjuri Bidin and other heads of government departments, Pemanca Badi Nuawi, Penghulu Enggin Nyipa, Penghulu Esit Nau, Penghulu Satim Morshiddin, Penghulu Stewart Sawing and Penghulu Nylong Daga.
At the function, he handed out certificates of participation to all the one hundred participants.
Facilitators for the course were Suzalyna Mos, Majelan Serudin, Terasa Anie Meng, Zakaria Abdul Rahman and Lorne Kadut.
