Pemadam to work closely with NGOs

SIBU: The National Association for the Prevention of Drugs (Pemadam) will work closely with non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to weed out the nation’s number one enemy.

Pemadam state executive secretary Syed Mohd Junaidi Wan Zawawi said the association would coordinate with NGOs here to run public awareness seminars.

“This is the first coordination with local NGOs and a very successful one. Rest assured that there will be follow-ups to the seminar to verbalise the movement.

“We are shifting into full gear to elevate public awareness about the dangers of drugs in line with government’s objective of making Malaysia a drug free nation by 2015,” he told reporters after a seminar yesterday.

The seminar was themed ‘The Role of Women in Combating Drug Menace’.

Syed Mohd added that while drugs may still be around, “what is important is that more people are aware about the menace and are taking positive steps to shun them”.
