Fatimah challenges Saberkas to be proactive

DALAT: Minister of Welfare, Woman and Family Development Sarawak Datuk Fatimah Abdullah yesterday called on Sarawak National Youth Movement (Saberkas) to be proactive in youth empowerment and capacity building in order to ensure the success of the state’s social transformation plan.

Fatimah called on Saberkas members and the youths to be proactive in working together with government departments, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and sports and recreational clubs to enhance their knowledge, confidence networking and soft-skills.

Fatimah made these remarks in her speech at the official opening ceremony of 1Malaysia 1Saberkas carnival organised by Dalat Saberkas at Tebingan Dalat waterfront here.

Fatimah was the guest-of-honour at the function that was also attended by Jemoreng assemblyman who is also State Saberkas Exco member Abu Seman Jahwie, Dalat District Officer Yussibnosh Balo, Saberkas executive secretary Izuani Heroni, Dalat Saberkas chairman who is also the organising chairman Dato’ Malike Mahli and Pemanca Henry Eli Berangai.

The Dalat assemblywoman also called on Saberkas members to think out of the box and be more united and dynamic so that they be strong and successful in facing greater challenges in this Information and Communication Technology (ICT) era where everything is globalised.

She also talked at length on the contribution of youths in the fields of music, sports, economic, leadership and social works, which can become the catalyst for the 1Malaysia concept of creating a united and prosperous Malaysian society that is dynamic and progressive.

In his welcoming speech, Malike congratulated Fatimah for her Panglima Gemilang Bintang Kenyalang (PGBK) award which carries the title ‘Datuk’ conferred by His Excellency Tun Datuk Patinggi Abang Mohammad Salahuddin in conjunction with the governor’s 90th birthday celebration recently and also Fatimah’s appointment as Minister of Welfare, Woman and Family Development Sarawak by Chief Minister during the recent cabinet reshuffle.

Among the highlights of the carnival were the presentation of ‘Jasamu Dikenang’ appreciation awards by Dalat District Saberkas to Allahyarham Hamdian Baijuri, Rasit Gani, Saibi Sabli, Penghulu Jack Tuna, Hendi Suhai, Tan Chiew Seng and Unit Saberkas Kampung Sungai Kut Muara Dalat (Pasukan Pengayuh Bidar Saberkas Kategori Wanita Regatta Dalat 2008) and the Tokoh Belia Saberkas Daerah Dalat 2011 awards to Juni Nor, 45, of Kampung Kuala Oya for the male category and Rokiah Yassin, 45, of Kampung Medong Dalat for the female category.

Juni is the director of Teater Kriss Dalat group while Rokiah is the vice-chairman of Saberkas Kampung Medong Hilir unit here.
