TAR College to be upgraded to university college

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said yesterday he had no objection to upgrading Tunku Abdul Rahman (TAR) College to university college status if it could fulfil the conditions set.

“On the MCA’s wish, and if the conditions are met, there should be no obstacle to upgrading it to university college,” he said when opening the MCA’s 58th annual general assembly at Wisma MCA, here.

Earlier, in his policy speech, MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek said MCA was arranging with the Higher Education Ministry to upgrade TAR College to a university college.

Dr Chua said TAR College would continue to contribute to producing well-trained professioanls and other manpower for the country.

The MCA-owned college was established on Feb 24, 1969. It has six branches in the country with 30,000 students, mostly taking up diploma and certificate-level courses. — Bernama
