IPGs battle it out for best drama presentation in Miri

MIRI: The staff and students of the Teacher Education Institute Rajang Campus (IPGKR) Bintangor are optimistic and ready to make a mark in the 2011 Sarawak Chief Minister Cup Drama Competition (Pertandingan Drama Piala Ketua Menteri Sarawak Ke10) being held here from Oct 1 to 5.

This annual musical drama festival will also feature plays presented by students from three other Teacher Education Institutes (IPG) namely IPG Sarawak Campus from Miri, IPG Batu Lintang Campus from Kuching and IPG Tun Abdul Razak Campus from Kota Samarahan.

IPG Rajang Campus with a total of 40 production crewmembers and actors will stage a drama entitled ‘Tunggah’ (Nya’oi in Kayan or Kenyah) which means ‘Calling’ (to perform duties with obligation and determination.)

The plays depicts the struggles of two newly graduated teachers in overcoming obstacles and challenges in their pursuit to bring transformation to the people living in the interior parts of Sarawak.

Meanwhile, IPG Sarawak Campus will be presenting ‘Metamorfosis’, IPG Batu Lintang Campus a drama entitled ‘Kudrat’ and IPG Tun Abdul Razak Campus production ‘NaNG’ will be staged during the competition.

The competition will be held at Dewan Muhibah, IPG Sarawak Campus Miri who plays host. They staged the first drama yesterday and was followed by IPG Tun Abdul Razak Campus.

Today IPG Rajang Campus and IPG Batu Lintang Campus will perform in the afternoon and night respectively.

Participants will be vying for the best director, best script, best costume, best choreographer, best actor, best actress, best support actor, and the best support actress awards.

Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud who will be attending the closing ceremony tomorrow night will present the overall champion’s masterpiece.
