KUCHING: A youth who allegedly outraged the modesty of a girl in the family he was staying with here was yesterday placed on four-day remand pending police probe.

Court Registrar Aida Montong who granted the remand order ordered the suspect, in his 20s, to be produced in court on Oct 10 upon the expiry of his remand order.

It was reported the parents of the alleged victim allowed the youth to stay with them as he had just found a job in the city.

The youth allegedly entered the room belonging to the girl, who would be 13 end of this year, about 9pm Tuesday. The girl told her parents about the alleged incident who lodged a police report the next morning.

Police picked the suspect at a shopping mall here where he had been employed as a general cleaner.  The suspect knew the family well as he too hailed from the same village as the victim’s mother.

The couple lodged a police report claiming that their daughter had been raped but according to a source, a medical checkup revealed no sign of rape.

The case is being investigated under Section 354 of the Penal Code which provides a maximum 10 years in jail, or with fine, or with whipping, or with any two of such punishments on conviction.
