MIRI: The recent Electronic Exhibition 2011 at Curtin Sarawak campus was a big hit with students of the university, members of the public, and a group of visiting lecturers from University of Nottingham, Malaysia.

The two-day event attracted several hundred visitors who flocked to view demonstrations of renewable energy kits, Lab View-controlled robots and other innovative electronic gadgets.

It was organised by the Institution of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) Student Branch of Curtin, with support from its Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering

According to the organising chairman and Curtin Sarawak IEEE Student branch president Oo Kean Cherng, the main objective of the event was to promote the Curtin Sarawak IEEE Student Branch, the achievements of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, as well as the benefits of studying electrical and computer engineering at Curtin Sarawak.

It was also to enable the students to showcase their competition entries and practical projects, and to help their fellow students relate theories learnt in textbooks to real world applications.

The exhibition was launched by the Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor of Curtin Sarawak, Professor Alistair Inglis. The launch included a demonstration of Curtin Sarawak’s entry in the Smart Car Competition 2011, held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from 14 to 15 September 2011.

A team of ECE students from Curtin Sarawak took part in the competition, also known as the Freescale Cup, which pits teams of undergraduate engineering students from various institutions of higher learning against each other.
