KUCHING: Greenzone (Kuching) Company is organising Green Future 2011 in collaboration with The Green Ribbon Association, which began yesterday and ends on Nov 30.

During this period, for every purchase of Greenzone’s G-Effect multipurpose cleaning detergent at RM18, Greenzone will donate RM5 to The Green Ribbon Association.

Greenzone is also giving out a special complimentary recycle bag with each purchase.

“G-Effect has been receiving very good response from the public as we strive to create our own local brand which we wish will help create an environment friendly society,” Greenzone Company sales and marketing director Nong Lim said.

The donation is to aid the poor and needy in society and the initiative is part of Greenzone’s mission to contribute to the society and at the same time share environmental protection awareness.

“Our company has in the past also contributed aid to international bodies but we soon realise that in our own community people are also desperate for help,” added Nong, noting that help should be channelled to those we can reach immediately.

Greenzone, which was established in 2010, is involved in supplying a full range of environmental friendly hygiene solution products which includes cleaning detergents, machinery and cleaning tools suitable for household, medic line and industrial purposes.

The Green Ribbon Association, which is the beneficiary of the event, provides a shelter home for the chronically ill, the destitute and mentally challenged individuals at its Home of Love.

“Outside of the home, even though the less-fortunate are able to get donations from the caring public, the aid is often than not abused,” Green Ribbon Association chairman Houston Law explained.

The event was part of the Green Ribbon Associations fund raising effort to build an estimated RM3 million new care centre, which was expected to accommodate about 100 people on a 1.25 acres land at Lorong 17, Desa Wira, Batu Kawa.

The new care centre was approved in Aug 18 by the planning authority chaired by Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.

“The approval came not too long after the proposal was made as the state government realised that the urgency to solve the homeless issue is high,” Law added.

Law also urged the public to be wise in giving donations as there are some opportunists who would take advantage of the weak living on the streets and he also noted that the public’s goodwill might not necessarily produce a good outcome.
