PETALING JAYA: A club from Cambodia, Preah Khan Reach FC or also known as PKR FC will become the second foreign team to feature in the Malaysian League (M-League) next season.

Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) vice president Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin said an official announcement of the club’s participation would be made after a meeting between Malaysia and Cambodia during the Asean Football Federation (AFF) meeting in Vientiane, Laos next week.

“The cooperation will further boost the relationship between both countries and expand FAM’s role abroad,” he
told reporters after chairing a FAM Competitions Committee meeting at Wisma FAM here yesterday.

PKR FC will however, feature in the FA Cup competition.

Apart from PKR FC, Singapore’s Under-23 squad or also known as The Young Lions, will play in the Super League, FA Cup and Malaysia Cup.

“However, because many players in the Young Lions squad are involved in Singapore’s ‘National Service’, FAM has agreed to allow a number of senior players to play in the league,” he said.

Hamidin added that the FAM had also allowed three naturalised Singaporean players to play in the team.

The consent to allow the Young Lions from Singapore to play in the M-League next season was to reciprocate Singapore’s decision to allow the Malaysian Under-23 (Harimau Muda A) team to play in the S-League (namely Super League, Singapore Cup and FA Cup) next season. — Bernama
