M’sia to develop mixed industrial park in China

MIRI: Malaysia has been offered to develop a 6,000-acre mixed industrial park near Naning city in Guangxi province, China.

Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Peter Chin Fah Kui will witness the contract signing ceremony between Malaysian developer Nagamas and the Municipal Government on Oct 20.

“It is a breakthrough in China-Malaysia relationship as this is long-term economic cooperation,” he said at a press conference after a meet-the-people session at SUPP Miri office yesterday.

The project to span 20 years could cost up to RM300 billion, and is a historic chapter as it the biggest investment for any Malaysian company.

He said this when commenting on the trip by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to China in conjunction with the upcoming Asean-China Trade Expo that will highlight the Malaysian theme this year.

The project is based on sustainable development and free carbon concept.

Chin said China had significant presence in Sarawak with its involvement in HEP projects including Kenyir Bakun and Murum, and a Chinese company had been awarded the job for an advanced Pantai II underground waste water treatment plant.

These were among the cooperation related to Chin’s green technology ministry, where recreational facilities were built on top of the underground treatment plant — a departure from the convention technology of being in the open.

This sophisticated mechanised treatment technology can treat waste water to class II water standard, equivalent to Singapore’s standard of treated water.

Meanwhile, Chinese companies have a strong presence in engineering procurement contracts, particularly in the boiler segment.
