KUALA LUMPUR: A councillor from Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) took the council to task for not revealing the approval of a condominium project in Taman Nirwana Fasa 2 Ampang that has come under protest from residents.

Tan Hua Meng, a councillor who is also a resident in the area said he was disappointed with the council for not informing him, as a councillor, of the approval given for such a project.

“As a councillor I have every right to know if such a project was going to be approved because such projects must be evaluated together before any approval by MPAJ.

“As for the project, even I have not seen such a condominium project planned. As such I want the superiors in MPAJ to investigate how such a project was approved,” he said after a peaceful protest staged by about 300 residents, opposing the project by MPAJ.

Taman Nirwana Fasa 2 Residents Association president Mohamad Suhaimi Ismail said MPAJ had not discussed or informed the residents before approving such a project (16-storey condominium). — Bernama

“The approval for the project does not seem to have followed the proper procedure…by right any project must be at least 20m from the main road but this project is right on the 20m mark,” he said.

He added that the residents were also up in arms against the proposal to build a condominium in 2009 and a protest letter submitted to MPAJ but there has been no response. — Bernama
