MIRI: Assistant Minister of Communications Datuk Lee Kim Shin urged Chinese associations in the state to share the common objective of preserving the beauty of ancient and traditional Chinese culture from being forgotten by the younger generation,

He said culture reflected the identity of a particular race or ethnic group and as such it was their responsibility to preserve and promote ancient Chinese culture, particular among the young generation.

“With the current rapid changes of modern society, this culture, particularly its traditional practices would be slowly forgotten by future generations,” he stated in his address when officiating at the 4th Chinese Leadership Training organised by the Federation of Miri Division Chinese Associations at Parkcity Everly Hotel yesterday.

On this concern, Datuk Lee said Chinese culture based activities should be organised more in the effort to attract participation from the young generation.

However, he pointed out the organisers should present the activities in a creative and attractive way.

Commenting on the event, he praised the organisers for organising the training session to improve the leadership skills of the participants.

As leaders, he said, there is a need to upgrade their knowledge in order to ensure they can keep abreast with current changes and meet the high expectations placed on them by the public.

Meanwhile, some 100 participants participated in the leadership training conducted by three speakers from Peninsular Malaysia and Taiwan. Also present were the deputy president of Federation of Miri Division Chinese Associations, Voon Sheo Fah and the organising chairman Tong Shih Yee.
