RM11 per kg chicken price claims baseless – ministry

KOTA KINABALU: The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry yesterday said the claims by Democratic Action Party (DAP) that frozen chicken was priced at RM11 per kilogramme in the local markets were baseless.

The ministry’s Sabah deputy director Rosli Abdul Hamid said the ‘super’ whole chicken was priced at RM9.50 per kilogramme here.

He said it is only priced marginally higher in Papar as the sellers are obtaining their supplies at a higher price.

Rosli also denied there was a shortage of chicken, saying that there is enough to meet demand, and the supplies will be increased during Deepavali celebrations.

DAP Sabah assistant secretary Junz Wong claimed recently that the price of frozen chicken had risen to RM11 per kilogramme and it might rise to RM12 per kilogramme during the Deepavali celebrations.

He also claimed that the price of chicken per kilogram used to be RM7 only three months ago.
