OVERWHELMING RESPONSE: Customers at Giant Kota Padawan wait to enter the hypermarket.

KUCHING: Giant opened its RM25 million Kota Padawan hypermarket yesterday.

Thousands thronged the 112,000-square foot complex after Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu Numpang officially opened it.

This is Giant’s third hypermarket in the state, after its Sibu branch, which opened on Aug 12, and Tabuan Jaya branch, which was launched on Aug 25.

GCH Retail Malaysia Sdn Bhd, the owner of Giant, plans to open its fourth hypermarket on Nov 11 in Miri.

“I am also happy to inform that through these investments, GCH Retail has created an additional 1,000 jobs this year, and generated opportunities for traders and small and medium enterprises to supply goods and services, especially food and fresh produce,” said GCH Retail merchandising director Ian Cruddas yesterday.

“Moreover, we have also generated business opportunities for local traders and entrepreneurs who can take up tenancy in the hypermarket complex.”

The Kota Padawan hypermarket offers over 100,000 items of fresh food, daily essentials and consumers goods.

Cruddas said it is designed to offer the trademark concept of wet market shopping in a clean, attractive and vibrant shopping environment.

Besides a large variety of famous brands, Giant Hypermarket Kota Padawan stocks its own private label products, which are on average 40 per cent lower in price than other brands.

Cruddas added with such great variety and value packed inside the complex, Giant Hypermarket Kota Padawan will soon be another favourite shopping destination in the city.
