Melaka to tap Japanese technology to commercialise hot spring water

KUALA LUMPUR: Melaka plans to tap Japanese technology and expertise to commercialise hot spring water as health drink products.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam who is visiting Japan’s Kagoshima region said the hot springs at Gadek and Bemban have good economic potential.

“We want to tap Japanese expertise and technology to develop new areas that can generate good income for the people,” he said in a statement faxed to Bernama from Japan yesterday.

Ali who is leading the Melaka delegation earlier held a two hour meeting with Kirishima mayor Maeda Shuji at the latter’s office.

Melaka could learn from Kirishima City in commercialising hot spring water adding it would be implemented after tests on water quality and mineral nutrients were completed.

Ali said the visit greatly benefit Melaka and Kagoshima especially in environmental protection, agriculture, education and information communication technology.

Kirishima City is sending 200 students to Melaka under the student exchange programme to learn the Malaysian culture and way of life.

On arrival in Kagoshima yesterday, the delegation held a meeting with Yumiba Trading Co Ltd president Akinobu Yumiba where Melaka offered the company opportunity to invest in Serkam halal hub.

Yumiba Trading was also offered investment opportunities in Melaka’s recycle and industrial sectors.

Ali also met 20 Malaysian students pursuing studies in Kagoshima and briefed them on current developments at home and government policies. — Bernama
