Police all geared up for general election

KUCHING: The police here are all geared up for the general election though it is still not known yet when it is going to be held.

District police chief, ACP Mun Kock Keong, said that they had been asked to prepare for any eventuality since end of last year.

He said the state police, in fact, were better prepared than their counterparts in Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah since the last (state) election was held in April this year.

“We have not received any particular directive of late but we have been asked to be prepared since last year.

“We had an election in April and we should be familiar with the procedures and logistics unless there are some changes in policies,” he told reporters during the Police Customer’s Day at the central police station here yesterday.

When asked whether police would be among the first to be notified after parliament has been dissolved to pave way for the general election, he said: “Everybody will be informed when the election is called. Although the police are involved, it is the Election Commission that will be fully in-charge.”
