Support extreme sports, urges Lee to private sectorsXtreme

KUCHING: The private sectors were urged to take their corporate social responsibility a step further by supporting extreme sports which are famous among the youths.

Sports and Communication Assistant Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin who pointed this said in western countries, major corporation and companies were among the biggest contributor and sponsors to such sports.

“Extreme sports is well-known to be a crowd puller and private sectors can assists the government in promoting the sports to our youth in such a way,” said Lee who was speaking at the Xtreme Games Challenge 2011 organized by Green Heights Mall.

Taking the point of futsal, Lee said it was not a well known sports initially and only played on the streets, but has since gain recognition and become a well known sports today.

“What we want is those involved in the extreme games, such as skateboarding, in-line skating and BMX to be supported. The government at the same time are looking at all possible ways to assists,” he added. The two day event was also co-organised by Sarawak Extreme Sports Association (SESA), Seventh Tribe Skate Shop, and Kuching Dynamic Social Club (KDSC) .

Among the categories contested during the two-day event were skateboarding, in-line skating and BMX flatland challenge.

Also present were SESA president Rudi Ibrahim and KDSC president Paul Fong.
