KUCHING: Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC), in a  statement, wishes to clarify that the more than 70 Tapang trees seized by the police on Oct 27 this year in Kapit were not found at its premises as reported.

The statement further said the seized logs were kept in the licensee’s building or store adjacent to Taman Balleh log pond, which was for keeping heavy machinery.

Tapang trees are protected species.

On Oct 27, Kapit OCPD DSP Entusa Iman confirmed there had been some illegal logging activity in the area.

At the same time, he stressed that felling of these species were prohibited.

Entusa said they found the logs following a public tipoff and they were later sent to SFC for further action.

He believed the logs were felled elsewhere and subsequently hauled to where they were found.

The Oct 28 news report also carried a file photograph showing a section of the Tapang logs which Kapit police had seized.
