Various fun and informative activities at Inti College Sarawak Career Day on Nov 11

KUCHING: Inti College Sarawak will be holding a Career Day this Friday (Nov 11) from 10am to 4pm at its campus in Jalan Stampin Timur here.

“For many students, the prospect of gainful employment upon graduation and opportunities for career advancement are often deciding factors in selecting an appropriate tertiary level programme of study,” said Inti College Sarawak chief executive Dr William Wong in a press conference held at the college yesterday.

Dr Wong, who is also the principal of the college said in today’s knowledge-based economy, both academia and industry play an important role in developing the intellectual capital of the populace, with a view to facilitating nation building.

Various fun and informative activities such as guided tours of the campus to enable visitors to experience its facilities first hand would be lined up on that day.

“Besides that, our academics and counsellors  will  be available to offer  face to face counselling on a wide range of courses, including various forms of financial assistance and scholarships.

“There will also be an exhibition of final-year projects by the college’s computer science students, programme exhibitions, educational games and showcases by participating vendors,” Dr Wong said.

He stated that with a view to bring together employers and job seekers, Inti College Sarawak and Jobstock have arranged for various organisations from the broad canvas of industry to showcase their respective organisations and brief job seekers on career opportunities available.

Meanwhile, managing director of Jobstock Ryan J noted that Inti College Sarawak had played a good role in producing talents to be offered to the job market in the state.

Ryan revealed that currently, accounting-based jobs are the most available jobs in the state, which take up about 35 per cent of the of the jobs available in the market.

“Next on the list are sales and marketing jobs which consist of 25 per cent.

Job seekers can easily get sales and marketing posts which are offered by many of the well-established companies,” he affirmed.

Ryan also said the third most available jobs in the state are administration jobs, followed by the civil engineering and construction field.

Five big companies from Kuching namely, Everrise Departmental Store Sdn Bhd, Hock Seng Lee Bhd, Master-Pack Sarawak Sdn Bhd, subsidiary of Naim Holdings Bhd, Total Reliability Sdn Bhd and Sarawak Cable Bhd will participate in the Career Day.

Ryan hoped that Jobstock would be able to showcase more employers from different industries such as services and accounting industries in the future.

During that day, visitors will also be treated to a special showcase by a team from Logos Hope, the world’s largest floating book fair.

“We will be sending a team during  the  Career Day to highlight some of the opportunities for the students if they wish to further their education,” said Logos Hope LIT coordinator Vasu Tucker.

Besides that, the Logos Hope team will have a special cultural performance, leadership programme and a sharing session about volunteering aboard the Logos Hope.

Selected books from the ship will be on sale during the Career Day.
