FLASH STORM FURY: Firemen removing debris from the fallen tree from atop the wrecked Perodua Kancil.

KUCHING: Two men cheated death when a large tree crashed on top of their car, which had been parked along the road, during a flash storm yesterday.

The incident occurred around 5pm when strong winds uprooted the tree along Jalan Simpang Tiga and sent it crashing atop the Perodua Kancil parked next to a bus stop.

The car, belonging to a local man working at a nearby construction site, was literally reduced
to scrap metal following the incident.

A worker, who had accompanied the car owner to work, said they arrived at the site around noon and parked by the main road due to the number of heavy vehicles at the construction site.

He said it was fortunate the two of them were still busy working when the storm struck because they could easily have been in the car when the tree fell.

Firemen were summoned to the scene to clear the fallen tree, which had blocked part of the road, while police personnel were on hand to control the heavy flow of traffic.
