SIBU: The wakaf (donation for religious purpose) concept should be expanded throughout the state in an effort to help needy Muslims.

Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister Department (Islamic Affairs) Datuk Daud Abdul Rahman stressed that they had to look at the ‘Wakaf Tunai’ concept as another branch of the Islamic Institution that needed to be further expanded.

“If the ‘Wakaf Tunai’ concept can be successfully expanded throughout the state, it will become an institution that stands firm and strong as the Tabung Baitulmal through its zakat (tithe).

“Thus, it is an institution that is capable of strengthening the economy of the Muslim community, and at the same time it can be used to help those who need help as well as to run various charity activities that benefit the Muslim community at large,” he added.

Daud was speaking at the launching ceremony of the ‘Wakaf Tunai’ (Cash Wakaf) / Implementation of the 5S and Aidiladha Gathering at Darul Amilin Mosque, Taman Permai yesterday. The programme was jointly organised by Darul Amilin Mosque Committee and Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN) Nangka Religious Secretariat.

The chairman of Darul Amilin Mosque Committee, Abdullah Draup and Nangka assemblyman, Dr Annuar Rapaee were also present.

The ‘Wakaf Tunai’ will be further expanded, which can be implemented through various methods, Daud said.

“As for the mosque, the mosque committee can implement it (Wakaf Tunai) by raising adequate funds that can be utilised either to purchase a shop lot or other long term investment to generate continuous income for the mosque,” he added.

In relation to that, Daud gave a pat on the back of Darul Amilin Mosque Committee under the dynamic leadership of Abdullah Draup for their commendable initiative and effort in coming up with their ‘Wakaf Tunai’ programme for the expansion project of Darul Amilin Mosque.
