LIMBANG: After suffering for three months, three Indonesians who were victims of human trafficking were rescued by police following the arrest of five suspects at Ranggau Phase 2 housing area on Sunday.

In the around 6pm incident, four local suspects (one of them a woman) and a foreigner were nabbed.

District police chief Deputy Superintendent Bukhori Saffai said all three victims, aged 19 to 32 years old, were forced to have sex with the suspects in the last three months.

Bukhori said an employment agency had brought the three from Indonesia to be employed in a neighbouring country, but they ended up being sent to Limbang for prostitution.

“The victims realised they were being cheated and managed to escape, but bumped into one of the suspects posing as a police officer,” he said.

The suspect promised to repatriate them to Indonesia by buying them air tickets to Indonesia.

“The three victims were then invited to stay with the suspects in Ranggau housing area since August, but they were forced to have sex with the suspects,” he said.

“The victims escaped last Friday and asked for help from the public before lodging a report.”

“Based on the report made, we raided the house and arrested all the suspects,” Bukhori said.

They are being remanded for six days to facilitate investigations.
