SIBU: More than 95 per cent of rural areas in Lanang constituency will have good roads and basic amenities like electricity and water supply by 2015.

Lanang MP Datuk Tiong Thai King told reporters this yesterday during his rounds to various places in his constituency.

“Most of the rural areas in my constituency are already enjoying the basic infrastructures and amenities,” said Tiong, who is also Sibu Municipal Council chairman, referring to the various projects done under the National Key Result Areas (NKRA).

He said most rural areas were already accessible by road, and what was left for the government to do was to maintain them.

He also said the areas were adequately supplied with water and power, adding: “We have provided them with generators so that they can have electricity.”

Owing to the vastness of the rural areas and scattered population, Tiong said certain projects might not be easy to implement.

He thus called on rural folk to be patient, saying although the government had allocated huge sums of money for rural development, the projects might take longer to implement.

Among the places Tiong visited were Sg Sengan, Sg Pak, Sg Naman and Assan Nunggang Road.

“I’ve noted that certain sections of Sg Sengan Road are water-logged.

“I assure you that remedy would come soon,” he told people in the area, particularly road users who had found travelling difficult because of the flood water.

“The drain along Sg Sengan Road will also be dredged,” he said.
