Dell to expand retail business in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: A leading name in the computer business, Dell is expanding its retail business in Malaysia to strengthen its position in the consumer business.

Its managing director for Malaysia and Singapore, Varinderjit Singh said the move would complement its online business which contributed strongly to the company sales.

“There’s an opportunity of growth for us (in the retail side). We have invested a lot and have the infrastructure and people in place,” he said during a media briefing here yesterday.

He said the company also planned to add more partners in the retail business to increase its presence through its partners. Moving ahead, Varinderjit said the company will be moving more into the mobility segments, which will include smartphones and tablets, for the consumer business.

“You will see a lot more products (smartphones and tablets) coming from Dell and we will leverage on the retailers that we have, to give better experience for customers” he said.

Ranked as the top seller of laptop and desktop computers for the commercial business in Malaysia, Dell employs over 4,500 employees in the country through three sites – a global business centre in Cyberjaya and two customer centres in Penang. — Bernama
