KOTA KINABALU: A single mom’s sacrifice for her children has paid off when her youngest son, Mohd Zulheem Hamzah, achieved 5A’s in his UPSR examination.

Kasmirah Jaafar, 51, who hailed from Johor, was proud of her son’s achievement at SK Pekan Putatan.

“I hope that with the result, he can apply for placing at Maktab Rendah Sains Mara Sabah and follow in the footsteps of his brothers before him,” she said.

She added that it has been the tradition of her children to go to the highly acclaimed school.

“I am very happy with the excellent result and I praise God for this,” she said.

She said she worked from home and supported her family through orders to sew clothes.

“I am glad Zulheem has the same drive to study hard as his brothers. The eldest is now studying at a university in Egypt,” she said.

Meanwhile, Zulheem when interviewed said he was touched with the strength of his mother in raising the family and in her support in his studies.

“I am blessed to have a mother who loves us so much and took care of us. She works merely as a tailor,” he said.

He added that his mother helped a lot in his preparation for the examination.

“I hope to follow in the footsteps of my older siblings,” he said.

SK Pekan Putatan managed to have eight students attaining 5A’s in the UPSR examination this year.
