KUCHING: Shira Anisha, the 19-year-old daughter of banker Gelmy Gelau, has been kidnapped, confirmed George Lagong (Independent-Pelagus) and political secretary to the chief minister Wilson Nyabong yesterday.

Met by reporters at the State Legislative Assembly, George said he got the shocking news from an aide in Kuala Lumpur, but he had yet to get the whole story from Gelmy, who is based in Kuala Lumpur.

It is understood that Shira was kidnapped three days ago, outside her apartment in Ampang.

“I need to confirm the news and wherever possible to assist in the case,” George said.

Meanwhile, Wilson, who like Gelmy is also from Kapit, said he received the news from Gelmy’s family as they were close to him.

“The motive for the kidnap has yet to be known; but it could be none other than asking for some ransom,” said Wilson, who is also PRS information chief.

He added that the family had already lodged a police report.

“There is not much that we can do from here, except pray for the family’s safety,” said Wilson.
