MIRI: A total of 60 students attended the recent Miri Eco-Camp 2011 at the Borneo Tropical Rainforest Resort.

The students were from SMK Luar Bandar, SMK Subis, SMK Suai and SMK Bakong.

Themed ‘1Earth, 1Voice, 1Hope’, the camp sponsored by Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd also involved coordinators from the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB), Sarawak Rivers Board (SRB) and Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC).

“Share what you have learned at Miri Eco-Camp with others, so that you can play an important role in the common effort to preserve and restore the environment,” said Sibuti MP Ahmad Lai Bujang during the closing ceremony.

Noting that one-third of the country’s wealth comes from Petronas, he said the corporation had a heavy corporate social responsibility.

“Inform your family members and do not be influenced by everything you read online,
for there are people out to criticise everything the government or government departments like NREB do,” he added.

Meanwhile, Petronas Carigali Sarawak operations chief Mohamed Amin Abdullah presented a contribution of RM50,000 to NREB assistant senior controller Paul Ponar Sinjeng for the camp.
