A HUNGRY crocodile crawled ashore to hunt for prey yesterday.
Unfortunately, the rather large crocodile was killed by the villager at one of the tributaries of Batang Lupar.
The 15-foot croc, weighing a couple hundred kilos was of brackish water variety. Apart from fishes, poultry is its next choice of prey.
Crocodiles, being a protected species by the authorities and with few natural enemies, have risen in numbers in recent years causing food for its survival in rivers to dwindle.
Hence the increasing incidences of crocodile attack on humans.
In order to protect the natural ecology, the authorities should learn how to maintain ecological balance; otherwise the effect will be counterproductive.
