Moo Duk Kwan Grandmaster due in Miri for SEALS

MIRI: Miri will host the 10th South East Asia Leadership Seminar (SEALS) from Dec 2 to 7 at Dato’ Lee Teck Fook Stadium in RIAM Institute of Technology campus.
SEALS is an annual gathering of Tang Soo Do, Soo Bahk Do, Moo Duk Kwan with students from around the world for the purpose of strengthening the Moo Duk Kwan foundation through the Moo Do standard, Identity and value as have been taught by the late Founder, Great Grandmaster Hwang Kee and succeeded by his son the Jr. HC Hwang.
The seminar’s event programme advisor, Master Dunstan Langgi said a total of 150 foreign and local Moo Duk Kwan exponents from 10 countries will attend the seminar, which is the fourth being hosted in Miri.
They are fromArgentina,Australia,New Zealand, thePhilippines, hostMalaysiaand several countries fromEurope.
Dunstan told the Borneo Post yesterday that the World Moo Duk Kwan President, Grandmaster H.C Hwang from Korea, the chief instructor of Europe Master Romano Yap (7th Dan) and his contingent of Ko Dan Ja (Masters) will be conducting the seminar.
Meanwhile in conjunction with the 10th SEALS, the host – Persatuan Soo Bahk Do Miri, will be organizing various activities, including for members of the public.
One of the activities will be a free clinic on self defense for women in the evening of Dec 1 at Thai Poo Association’s Hall.
It will be conducted by two respected and certified women Master’s Leonie Broman and Lauren Anderson from Australian Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan, and assisted by the local qualified senior masters.
“Miri Soo Bahk Do Association aspires to ‘give back’ to the community by conducting a free self-defense clinic especially for women.”
“The aim is to prepare participants with confidence, skill and mental readiness in facing threatening situation. They shall share experience, knowledge, and skill to tackle crisis and dangerous situation tactfully and safely,” he said.

Among other activities are international Goodwill visit to Soo Bahk Do Club in Kampung Bidayuh, where the village folks will offer Bidayuh traditional reception and food, visit to the GUA Chalet Longhouse and the Borneo Tropical Rainforest Resort.
The Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water, Datuk Sri Peter Chin Fah Kui, will officiate at the event on Dec 3 while the Deputy Tourism Minister, Datuk Dr. James Dawos, will officially close the seminar during a dinner on Dec 7.
