Woman doctor killed as car hits tree

KOTA KINABALU: A young woman doctor who was on her way to Likas Women and Children Hospital to work was killed when her car smashed into a tree at Km 6.5, Jalan Tun Fuad Stephens in Tanjung Lipat yesterday morning.

The victim’s wrecked vehicle at the scene yesterday.

The victim, identified as Cheng Siew Kuan, 26, from Selangor, died on the spot of severe head and body injuries.

City police chief ACP Ahmad Sofi Zakaria said the victim was believed to have lost control of her Proton Wira car as it skidded off the road and crashed into the tree on the traffic island around 6am.

“There were no tyre marks on the road and no other vehicle was involved,” he said.

The victim’s body was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for a post-mortem, he said.

“Police are still carrying out investigation under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said.
