SULTRY SONGSTRESS: Norsuzela entertains the audience during the MASwings Idol Search 2011, of which she has emerged as the champion.
KUCHING: It might have been her ‘dangdut’ moves that really caught the judges’ attention.
Norsuzela Sabini, a call centre staff from MASwings Sdn Bhd’s (MASwings) office here, emerged as the champion of MASwings Idol Search 2011, held at a hotel here recently.
Serenading the audience with a melodious ballad ‘Destiny’ by Jim Brickman before heating up the scene with a catchy dangdut number ‘Terima Kasih’ (Thank You) by Indonesian singer Inul Darasista, Norsuzela was picked as the judges’ best, walking away with RM2,000 and a trophy.
At second place, Yusmadi Basri from MASwings finance office here enchanted the ladies by presenting two tone-rich tracks ‘Jangan Bersedih Lagi’ by Anuar Zain and ‘You Raise Me Up’ by Josh Groban. He won RM1,500 and a trophy.
Taking up the second runner-up stand was Tiara Orlean Radcliff from MASwings’ in-flight services division in Kota Kinabalu, showcasing her vocal prowess as she belted out Whitney Houston’s ‘I Have Nothing’ before moving around the room, entertaining audience and judges alike with Sheila Majid’s classic rendition ‘Sinaran’. She received RM1,000 and one trophy.
Other three contestants comprising MASwings’ airport operations personnel Awang Musa Awang Kassim and security staff Kaseh Tawi fromSabah, and Dahlia Alias from MASwings’ Kuching regional office, were awarded subsidiary prizes and certificates.
More than 80 people came to support all six finalists fromSabahandSarawak. Present during the night were MASwings’Sarawakregional manager Zainuddin Mohamed and the carrier’sSabahregional manager Shauqi Ahmad.
The two judges engaged for MASwings Idol Search 2011 were seasoned song composer Narawi Rashidi and Nor Hafizah Busman, a professional singer and vocal trainer who was also a former director of the music and arts performance forSarawakCulturalVillage.
“Seeing the response we got for MASwings Idol Search 2011, we would like to have it as annual event. It would be great to engage both MASwings’SarawakandSabahoperations through programmes such as this.
“It is exciting. Congratulations once again to all winners of MASwings Idol Search 2011,” said Zainuddin.
